I think many people struggle with the differences between their public/private/secret lives - we are all, as Sally said recently "so many people." scarylawyerguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03340241283633171546noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5016253077154756564.post-22907571509767352532014-04-29T00:54:15.869-04:002014-04-29T00:54:15.869-04:00Yup, I agree. People are who they are and unlikely...Yup, I agree. People are who they are and unlikely to make true intrinsic changes. Character flaws that are minimized during calm times come roaring back when life becomes stressful. Don's not a particularly admirable example of manhood, but his far less than nurturing background is certainly a primary shaping factor. People develop coping behaviors in terrible situations that they then bring to the table. What provides safety and aids survival in one place is maladjusted behavior in another. Don chooses flight to avoid close scrutiny or self-examination of his psyche-a very adaptive behavior learned at his nonexistent mother's breast. He lies, he reinvents himself, he apologizes and then does the same thing all over again (I think he's sincere within his context of understanding sincerity). He's imperious and self-serving. It might not end well, but like any life, it's just the way life ebbs and flows. I certainly don't have a Don Draper in my life, but I've met so many "characters" with so many secrets, and with such unexpectedly dramatic "back stories" that I don't find the Don Draper story entirely unexpected. I find real people as fascinating as I find Don (and all the characters on Mad Men). I just rarely get such an intimate peek at their lives!<br />none122https://www.blogger.com/profile/08861351067651250544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5016253077154756564.post-80392840433751535142014-04-28T18:36:34.042-04:002014-04-28T18:36:34.042-04:00But they said she was not "from them"......But they said she was not "from them"...Hildegerdhttp://www.hildegerdh.tumblr.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5016253077154756564.post-55983558638375783692014-04-28T18:18:12.574-04:002014-04-28T18:18:12.574-04:00Consensus seems to be she was a plant by the adver...Consensus seems to be she was a plant by the advertising firm to "seal the deal."
